Magda Schwerzmann

studied with Peter-Lukas Graf, Philippe Racine and Aurèle Nicolet, and graduated, after a study year in London, with the Concert and Soloist Diploma. Her special interest in new music has enabled her to team up with important composers of our time (for instance Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, George Crumb, Thomas Demenga, Rudolf Kelterborn, to name a few). She gives debut performances and makes radio and television recordings of very diverse works.

In addition, Magda Schwerzmann studied Early Music, specialising in the flauto traverso, at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Oskar Peter and graduated with the Early Music Diploma. Meeting Barthold Kuijtken has given her a special repertoire.
Magda Schwerzmann aims to build a bridge between past and present. That’s why her artistic work stretches from early baroque performance practice over later chamber music and orchestra concerts, to music theatre performances, improvised performances and live- electronic productions.

Apart from her solo appearances, she takes part as a chamber musician in different formations in the field of both early and new music. She is a founding member of the Music Forum Zug, which in 1998 won the Margeurite de Reding prize of the Swiss Musicians’ Association, when the prize was awarded for the first time. She is also a member of ENSEMBLE ZERO, NEW (new european winds) and the Trio LIRAS.

She won a prize in the Nicati competition 2000 of the Swiss Musicians’ Association. She was awarded distinction from the Orpheum Foundation for the promotion of young artists and has won the promotion prize of the Zug artists and the Migros culture percentage prize, several times.
Concert tours lead her through Poland, Russia and different countries in Latin America.

Magda Schwerzmann teaches flauto traverso and flute, and regularly gives courses in Switzerland (Arosa).

She is a lecturer at the music high school of Luzern and guest lecturer at the music high school in Zürich / Winterthur.

In the managing committee of the SMPV (swiss music pedagogic association) she is responsible for musical education.
